About This Tool
This calculator is designed to help farmers, agronomists, and agricultural students make quick, accurate calculations for farm management. It uses standard agricultural formulas based on extension service recommendations and scientific literature. Whether you are planning inputs, estimating yields, or managing finances, this tool provides reliable estimates to support your decisions.
Applicability: Applicable to pest management programs in North American and European cropping systems.
How the Calculation Works
Seed in hundredweight (cwt) = seed lb ÷ 100. Chemical volume (fl oz) = cwt × label rate (fl oz/cwt). mL = fl oz × 29.57. Active ingredient (fl oz) = chemical volume × concentration ÷ 100.
Real-World Example
5,000 lb of seed = 50 cwt. At 8 fl oz/cwt: 50 × 8 = 400 fl oz ≈ 11,830 mL. At 50% concentration: 200 fl oz active ingredient.
Common Mistakes & Tips
Common mistakes: reading the label rate per 1,000 lb instead of per cwt (100 lb); mixing up fl oz with fluid pounds; treating unevenly in the drum; ignoring slurry volume for application. Always follow the label — it is the legal document.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is a cwt?
A hundredweight (cwt) is 100 lb in the US. Seed treatment label rates are written per cwt, so divide your total seed weight in pounds by 100 before multiplying by the rate.
Why does concentration matter?
Two products with the same fl oz rate can contain different amounts of active ingredient. Concentration tells you the fraction that actually controls pests; the rest is carrier and inert ingredients.
How do I apply the treatment evenly?
Use a calibrated seed treater or drum. Add the chemical slowly while tumbling the seed, and weigh output from the treater to confirm the target rate is achieved. Wear required PPE.
Can I mix two seed treatments?
Only if the label allows tank-mixing. Some combinations are incompatible and can clog equipment or reduce efficacy. When in doubt, contact the manufacturer.
How do I convert fl oz to mL?
1 US fluid ounce = 29.57 mL. If your equipment is calibrated in mL, multiply fl oz by 29.57. The calculator does this for you.
