5-year-old coffee at 3000 trees/ha, target 8,000 kg cherry/ha: N = 8 × 15 = 120 kg N/ha. P₂O₅ = 8 × 3 = 24 kg P₂O₅/ha. K₂O = 8 × 18 = 144 kg K₂O/ha. Urea = (120 − DAP contribution) ÷ 0.46 ≈ ~240 kg urea/ha. DAP = 24 ÷ 0.46 ≈ 52 kg DAP/ha. MOP = 144 ÷ 0.60 = 240 kg MOP/ha. Cost ≈ 240×0.50 + 52×0.60 + 240×0.55 = $287/ha.
Year 1-2 (establishment): 50-100 g/tree split into 3-4 applications. Year 3-4 (early production): 100-200 g/tree. Year 5+ (full production): 200-400 g/tree, split into pre-bloom, main fill, and post-harvest. Apply in bands around drip line, not against trunk.
Coffee (Coffea arabica and C. canephora) is a high-value tropical crop. Mature arabica plantations produce 5-10 t cherry/ha; robusta 8-15 t/ha. Nutrient demand is heavy — N and K are the main drivers, with P critical for root development. This calculator follows FAO Coffee Nutrition Guidelines and ICRAF recommendations. Best management: split applications, soil testing every 2-3 years, and use of organic mulch/shade to reduce leaching.

Applying too much N causes excessive vegetative growth and lower bean quality. Not splitting K applications leads to leaching. Forgetting micronutrients (B, Zn, Mg) — coffee is sensitive to boron deficiency. Always soil test; do not rely on universal formulas alone. Young trees need less but more frequent applications.
